We are a world-leading research Centre focused on the domestic and international resilience of liberal democracy globally, in Europe, the United States and beyond. Democratic backsliding is a defining challenge of our time. We are building on the extensive research expertise and extraordinary convening power of the University of Oxford to meet this challenge.
Vision
We believe in a world where liberal democracy - anchored in free and fair elections, the rule of law, and civil and political rights - flourishes, evolves, and endures. We are committed to governance guided by the timeless democratic values of freedom, equality, justice, accountability, and the common good.
Mission
Our world-class research employs cutting-edge scientific methods and evidence-based approaches to understand and promote democratic resilience at four levels – in society, through democratic institutions, at the international level, and by observing authoritarian regimes, because that is where the authoritarian playbook is being developed and refined. Our policy labs give us agility to address practical challenges quickly and flexibly in collaboration with stakeholders.
Focus
Partnerships are integral to our work because developing effective, evidence-based approaches to strengthen democracy requires collaboration. We work with funders and philanthropists, researchers, and leading stakeholders in politics, civil society, business and international organisations. Together we develop and implement impactful, agile, and scalable solutions to safeguard democracy for the future.
