About Us
The Centre for Democratic Resilience is anchored in an exceptional research and educational environment.
The University of Oxford is ranked world number one in The Times Higher Education’s ‘World University Ranking.’ It has held this position for a record-breaking nine consecutive years, claims over 55 Nobel Prize winners, and has educated leaders in research and teaching for over 900 years.
The Department of Politics and International Relations is one of the leading political science departments in the world, with over 100 academics, 300 graduate students and 900 undergraduates. We are home to Oxford’s flagship Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) degree, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. Many of our students go on to positions of leadership in business, government, and civic society. Our executive education, including our Global Leadership Programme, equips the next generation of leaders with the ethical and analytical tools to be stewards of democracy.
What makes us different?
We have a proud tradition of leadership not just in education, but also in research, that sees us consistently ranked as “world leading” in the UK and internationally. The Department of Politics and International Relations is home to prize-winning faculty, major research projects, an exceptional group of post-doctoral researchers supported by highly competitive research fellowships, a vibrant doctoral student community, and a global group of academic visitors.
Partnerships lie the heart of the department’s success. A rich fabric of connections, including the Oxford-Berlin Research Partnership and the Oxford-Science Po network, links us to some of the foremost universities in the world. The department’s centres and institutes create synergies in research and engagement across multiple areas of expertise. For instance, our Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism tracks how the changing nature of journalism and the media industry affects democracy, while our Centre for Advanced Social Science Research Methods brings cutting edge data science to bear on urgent democratic challenges. These centres forge connections within Oxford, leveraging the University’s wider research ecosystem and build bridges with experts and practitioners around the world.
