His research focusses on the strategic role of crime control and anti-corruption efforts in US military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Besides his interest in US foreign policy he also maintains a larger interest in international security politics, Russian politics, and compliance. He is a research assistant for the Global Security Programme at Pembroke College.

Overview:
Joel Battle is a DPhil International Relations student at the Department of Politics and International Relations; his supervisor is Professor Lauren Sukin. His doctoral research explores how technological change influences the United States’ nuclear strategy, and how this strategic adjustment then impacts US deterrence capabilities. Before beginning his doctoral research, Joel graduated with distinction from the Oxford MPhil International Relations program.
