IMMIGRATION & INCLUSION: LESSONS FOR THE UK FROM AUSTRALIA

Merton will be welcoming Tim Soutphommasane, the new Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Oxford and Fellow of Balliol College, and Tiphaine Le Corre, a current DPhil student in politics at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, as speakers for the ninth Merton Equality Conversation.

Tim will be speaking on the issues of immigration, equality, and inclusion in liberal democracies, drawing from his rich experience as both a political theorist, previously at the University of Sydney, and as Australia’s Race Discrimination Commissioner from 2013–2018.

Maria Golubev

Maria is a doctoral candidate in International Relations at the University of Oxford. Her current thesis explores the impact of international climate governance on Russian environmental and energy policy. Maria’s broader research interests include Russian foreign policy and militarisation as well as the global politics of climate and energy. 

Matthew Brack

I manage the Operations and Office Management team, which exists to ensure a conducive working environment for all members of the DPIR community, and represent DPIR on issues related to our Manor Road Building. My responsibilities include:

  • Departmental Safety Officer: Risk assessment, policy and safety point of contact for staff and students.

  • Travel Manager: Guidance for travel and fieldwork, travel insurance approvals and incident response.
