Anton Hemerijck (DPhil Politics 1987) has published The Uses of Social Investment
The Uses of Social Investment takes stock of the limits and potential of social investment as the welfare policy paradigm of the 21st century, seen through the lens of life-course contingencies of the knowledge economy and modern family demography. It surveys the emergence, diffusion, limits, merits, and politics of social investment. Given the progressive, admittedly uneven, diffusion of social investment policy priorities across the globe, the volume seeks to address the pressing political question of whether the social investment turn is able to withstand social aftershocks of the global financial crisis.
Anton Hemerijck read politics at Balliol College (Matriculation 1987) and received his DPhil in 1993 from Oxford University. He is Professor of Political Science and Sociology at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, and Centennial Professor of Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
