DPIR’s Dr Edward Brooks - Director of the Programme for Global Leadership and Executive Director of the Oxford Character Project – has been mentioned in a recent Financial Times news article on the subject of hope.
Dr Brooks is currently working on a book on the virtue of hope, referenced in the FT article by journalist Jemima Kelly.
In the article – ‘It’s the Hope that Saves You’ - Jemima argues about the importance of hope and the clear distinctions between hope and optimism.
Commenting in the article, Dr Brooks said: "Optimism is an expectation of a positive future,” he says. “Hope is a habit of focusing action and attention on a future that is good and that is difficult but yet possible to attain.”
