This year's programme was the first time that a hybrid model of teaching - both online and in-person - was trialled, enabling people to join from all around the world. As a result, the 2023 cohort was also the Spring School's largest in its history so far, with 81 people joining in-person and 33 logging in online to sharpen their social science research skills.
Those who could join in person toasted the Spring School's anniversary with a special birthday cake and a speech from the Spring School Director, Dr Spyros Kosmidis, at a Brasenose College drinks reception on Thursday 30 March.
At the end of the week-long programme Dr Kosmidis commented: "After recent years of delivering Spring School online due to the pandemic, it has been wonderful to welcome this talented group of professional researchers and postgraduate research students back to Oxford, to take part in our intensive methods training with leading experts.
"Watching participants network and connect within their course groups and across the wider school has also been a joy to watch this week - as has the ability for students to take part in our learning virtually from the other side of the world, who might not have been able to attend the course otherwise.
"The Oxford Spring School teaching team and I hope that participants' skills, knowledge and future research have been enriched by their experiences with us this week."
Spring School 2023 consisted of five course options in quantitative and qualitative methods and were supplemented by optional methodology classes in the morning.
