Zeynep Pamuk to join DPIR

The Department is delighted to announce that Dr Zeynep Pamuk will join the team in September 2023 as Associate Professor in Contemporary Political Theory. She will also hold a Professorial Fellowship at Nuffield College.

Dr Pamuk is currently an Assistant Professor of Political Theory within the Department of Government at London School of Economics and Political Science. She holds a PhD in political science from Harvard University and a BA in ethics, politics & economics from Yale University.

Before joining the LSE, Dr Pamuk was Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, University of California, San Diego and Supernumerary Fellow in Politics at St John's College, Oxford.

Her research interests are in democratic theory, the role of expertise in politics, and the impact of artificial intelligence and automation on democracy. She is the author of Politics and Expertise: How to Use Science in a Democratic Society (Princeton), which has received the American Political Science Association’s Foundations of Political Theory Section First Book Prize.

She is currently working on projects on statistical discrimination, the automation of government services, and the impact of search engines on democracy.

On her forthcoming appointment to the Department, Dr Pamuk said: “I’m delighted to join DPIR and Nuffield College and look forward to being part of the wonderful political theory community at Oxford.”
