Date

Tim Soutphommasane, a lecturer at Australias Monash University and recent DPhil graduate in Political Theory, has authored two new books on the topic of multiculturalism, citizenship, and liberal nationalism.

Tims The Virtuous Citizen: Patriotism in a Multicultural Society (Cambridge University Press, 2012) explores what it means to be a citizen in a multicultural society and what role patriotism plays in defining our relationship with our country and fellow citizens. The book argues that a liberal form of patriotism, grounded in national identity, is essential for political stability in a diverse society. It can be purchased from Amazon here.

Dont Go Back to Where You Came from: Why Multiculturalism Works (New South, 2012) offers a strong defence of Australian multiculturalism. With the concept of multiculturalism frequently under attack in Europe, this book makes the case for a multicultural approach to integration and diversity. It can be purchased from Amazon here.

Additionally, Tim was recently profiled in The New Statesmen (16 August) about his work advising the Labour leadership on issues of liberal patriotism and national identity. That article can be read in full here.
