Symposium on The Crisis of 1914 and What It Means for Us Today

Professor Margaret MacMillan, Dr David Rodin and Professor Sir Adam Roberts participated in a symposium (24 - 29 June) entitled 'Ethics & International Affairs: The Crisis of 1914 and What it Means for Us Today'.


The event, hosted by the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs in partnership with the American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AUBiH) took place in the Gazi Husrev-bey Library on 27 June, as part of the centenary commemorations of the killings of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sophie on 28 June 1914.

Margaret MacMillan gave the keynote presentation, David Rodin spoke on 'Ethics and War', and Adam Roberts gave his talk on 'Legal and Moral International Norms since 1914'.

After the event, David Rodin participated in a site visit to Srebrenica with Professor Michael Ignatieff of Harvard University to meet with survivors and parents of victims of the genocide, and to engage in discussions with local civic leaders.
