Stathis Kalyvas elected a British Academy Fellow

Stathis Kalyvas, Gladstone Professor of Government, has been elected a Fellow of the British Academy in recognition of his research into political conflict, violence and civil wars.

One of only 86 new Fellows this year, he joins a community of around 1,400 world-leading scholars and researchers working in the humanities and social sciences. 

Professor Kalyvas commented: "I am extremely honoured by the Academy’s decision to include me in its ranks; I look forward to taking advantage of my fellowship in order to explore novel ways of approaching the study of human conflict, particularly in the less explored interfaces of the humanities with the social sciences."

Previous high profile Fellows include Sir Winston Churchill, C.S Lewis, Seamus Heaney and Beatrice Webb. Within Oxford politics, Stathis joins colleagues Ben Ansell, Rosemary Foot, Sudhir Hazareesingh, Desmond King, Cécile Laborde, David Miller and Rana Mitter, who have also been recognised for their academic distinction and elected to the British Academy’s Fellowship in previous years.
