As a Department with scholars and students who study Ukraine, Russia and neighbouring countries, and as a community with members who come from the region, we are appalled by the Russian government’s unprovoked war of aggression, and stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
Our sympathy lies with the Ukrainian people under attack, with those forced to flee their homes, with their families, and with those in Russia and Belarus who stand against this unprovoked war at great personal risk. As a community of scholars, we are deeply concerned about the safety and wellbeing of colleagues and students in Ukraine’s universities for whom this war will have disastrous effects, causing displacement, suffering and hardship.
At this time of deep crisis, we express our support for the people of Ukraine, for Ukraine’s sovereignty, self-determination, independence, and territorial integrity, and for people of all nations who suffer as a direct consequence of this unprovoked and horrifying conflict.
The Department is offering whatever support it can to its students, staff and members who are affected, directly or indirectly, by the current events in Ukraine and the surrounding region.
The University has compiled a helpful resource pagewith support for students, staff, information about the college response, academic events, and ways to help.
