Date

Dr Christopher Howard, who spent five years at St Anne`s reading for his MPhil and DPhil - both in Politics - has been elected 24th President of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, US.

Chris Howard graduated in 1991 from the US Air Force Academy. He was then a Rhodes scholar at St Anne`s, Oxford, and went on to earn a Master`s in Business Administration from Harvard.

We would like to congratulate Dr Howard on this prestigious appointment: Hampden-Sydney College is the 10th oldest college in the United States (founded in 1775) and is based 60 miles southwest of Richmond, Virginia, on a campus, much of which has been designated a National Historic Preservation Zone. He was chosen from a pool of 100 candidates that included `sitting college presidents, vice presidents, deans, and leaders from other walks of life: attorneys, physicians, and business leaders`.

Dr Howard is described by the Chairman of the College`s board as having a `keen intellect and extraordinary breadth of talents ... a superb candidate to lead a small, high quality, all-male institution such as Hampden-Sydney`.
