Professor Vernon Bogdanor comments on accusations of Prince Charles meddling

Date

Vernon Bogdanor was quoted in both The Guardian and The Independent on accusations that the Prince of Wales abused his royal position to intervene in a local council planning application.

Leading constitutional experts have insisted the Prince of Wales has no duty to intervene in large-scale planning applications to promote the views of ordinary people, as Clarence House claimed last week. An article in The Guardian features comment from Vernon Bogdanor, who argues that the Prince of Wales is entitled to intervene in non party-political public issues. Vernon was also quoted in an article in The Independent entitled: A portrait of Charles as thrifty voice of the people.

Vernon Bogdanor is Professor of Politics and Government and also CUF University Lecturer.
