Professor Robert G Picard comments on the use of drones for journalism

Robert Picard, Director of Research at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, was quoted in a post on The Guardians Media Network blog on the potential for using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) commonly known as drones for journalism.

Robert noted that the relative affordability of drones could create considerable opportunities for journalists. If you dont have the kind of huge budget you need to keep a helicopter around all the time, then suddenly this becomes an interesting opportunity, he said. The post also noted that the Reuters Institute hosted a workshop on the topic of drone aircraft and newsgathering on 22 October.
