Professor Jan Zielonka discusses the importance of EU Parliament elections in May

Date

In an article for Le Monde Diplomatique published on 10 April Professor Jan Zielonka assesses the significance of the May elections to the EU Parliament.

Professor Zielonka argues that neither Plan A nor Plan B, the Europhile and Eurosceptic agendas respectively, are ideal. He therefore suggests a third option, a Plan C, which should envisage integration along functional rather than territorial lines and, he argues, will break the monopoly of states in running European integration. The argument is explored fully in his book, Is the EU Doomed? (Polity Press, 2014).
