Professor Iain MacLean on the complexity of the Scottish route to independence

Date

Iain MacLean gave evidence to MPs on the Scottish Affairs select committee at Westminster and commented on Newsnight Scotland on the Scottish referendum on independence. His comments were picked up by an article on potential Scottish opposition to the independence vote in The Scotsman (15 March, 2012).

Iain said to the MPs that as the terms of independence are being changed from week to week and day to day by the Scottish Government, there will be an element of a pig in a poke about independence. Furthermore, he added in Newsnight Scotland, the Scottish people may well not know what they are voting for because the nature of the split will not have been negotiated by the time of the referendum.
