Professor David Anderson comments on the end of the Gaddafi era

Date

David Anderson was interviewed on Newsweek for BBC Radio Scotland (22 October) on the death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and the effect this might have on Libya, now and in the future.

One problem Libya doesnt have is that it doesnt have a strong fundamentalist Islamic tradition in the country, David said,And that may be one of the things that they will count as a blessing as they try to put together a coalition, because they wont have the kind of difficulties that the Revolutionary Coalition are facing in Egypt, where finding common ground between the liberals and the fundamentalists is proving very tricky indeed.

The programme can be heard here (David appears around 40 mins in).
