Professor Christopher Hood comments on overhauling the Treasury

Date

Christopher Hood was recently quoted in two different articles in The Financial Times concerning changes made to the Treasury.

The first article related to George Osbournes decision to scrap Gordon Browns pre-Budget report, which had come to be seen as effectively a second annual Budget. Christopher was quoted as saying: The PBR probably contributed more to the public debate but at the same time it was often used for political reasons as well as double announcements and the like. The full article can be read here.

The second article dealt with the scaling down of the Treasury itself, and compared the current contraction with similar events in the past. Christopher commented on how Black Wednesday effected the government in 1994, and how that more slimmed model was not given enough time to be truly tested. The full article can be read here.
