Neil Ketchley to join DPIR
The Department is delighted to announce that Neil Ketchley will join the team in September 2021 as the new Associate Professor in Politics with specialisation in the Middle East.
Neil is currently Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Oslo, where he researches protest and revolution in the Arabic-speaking Middle East and North Africa.
His 2017 book, Egypt in a Time of Revolution, about the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and its aftermath, was awarded the Charles Tilly Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship Book Award by the American Sociological Association. In 2018, he won a Rising Star Engagement Award from the British Academy.
Neil was previously Lecturer in Middle East Politics at King's College London from 2016-2019 and was Hulme Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Brasenose College from 2014-2016. His research has appeared in the leading disciplinary journals including the American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics and Political Research Quarterly.
Neil is currently working on a number of new research projects, including the outbreak of anti-colonial revolutions following the First World War, the rise of political Islam in Egypt, and the changing profiles of political elites in the region.
“I am delighted to be joining the DPIR community and look forward to promoting the study of Middle East political science at this world-leading department,” he said.
