Professor Rosemary Foot has been awarded a prestigious Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship for research into China's approach to Human Protection and its image as a responsible great power.
Professor Foot's new research project will examine how a more powerful Beijing engages with issues of human protection in ways that reflect its ideological beliefs, which presents a significant challenge to a regime which privileges state security above that of the individual. This will build on Professor Foot's past work on China's role in the global order and the extent of its participation in the human rights debate.
The Leverhulme Trust, which awards funding and fellowships across academic disciplines, was established in 1925 by the founder of Lever Brothers, Lord Leverhulme. It awards approximately £80 million of research funding in the UK each year, with the aim of supporting original research that advances knowledge of the world.
