The Department is delighted to welcome Laura Sjoberg, who has joined the team earlier this month as Professor of International Relations.
Professor Sjoberg is also Official Fellow and Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Exeter College.
She studied for her JD at Boston College in the US and her PhD at the University of Southern California and was previously British Academy Global Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Royal Holloway, University of London since 2020.
Her research addresses issues of gender and security, with focus on politically violent women, feminist war theorising, sexuality in global politics, and political methodology. She teaches, consults, and lectures on gender in global politics, and on international security.
Her work has been published in more than 50 books and journals in political science, law, gender studies, international relations, and geography.
Professor Sjoberg is currently working on the submission draft of her new book, tentatively titled Historical Sexual International Relations, as well as a few other projects - one on trans pregnancy (with Suki Finn and Caterina Nirta) and one on the methodological misuse of science in IR (with J. Samuel Barkin).
On her Oxford appointment, she said:
“At both Exeter and DPIR, I am excited to work with such an amazing group of colleagues, and to explore the rich potential collaborations with them, in teaching and research.”
