Nic Cheeseman has co-authored an article (with Dr Sarah Jane Cooper-Knock) in the Daily Nation (1 November) about the problems of funding higher education throughout Africa.
They write, "The Fees Must Fall student protests in South Africa have highlighted the many challenges facing university education in Africa. On the whole, African universities are under funded and under staffed. One consequence of this is that African students get a raw deal — in some cases, they pay higher fees than their counterparts in Europe, but get less in return."
