Dr Hugo Slim on cooperation between the private sector and aid agencies

Date

Hugo Slim is quoted in an article by Reuters (26 January) on the increasing number of businesses teaming up with aid agencies to offer logistics services and new technologies in the wake of natural disasters.

Hugo says, “I don't think it is necessarily a sinister motive to hope that by pioneering and innovating in a disaster you might not stumble across an invention or a market that could be useful in the future."

The article evaluates recent trends in cooperation between for-profit and non-profit sectors as well as the potential drawbacks of this cooperation as humanitarian aid funding by governments declines under the pressure of the current economic crisis.
