The government of Sudan, seeking to reorient its economy following the loss of oil profits since South Sudans independence, is hoping to transform the country into a key global sugar exporter. Many experts, however, note that Sudanese firms remain uncompetitive relative to leading firms in countries such as Brazil and Turkey. Kenana [Sudans largest sugar firm] has received billions in subsidies but is not there where it should be. Its not a big player, a giant, Harry said.
