Dr Elizabeth Frazer discusses the future of democracy as a global ideal

Date

Elizabeth Frazer appeared on BBC Radio 4's 'The World This Weekend' (7 July) in which she was asked for her views on the direction of democracy in the world today.

When asked if she was optimistic she said, “I think that everybody has to be concerned about the violence that we’re seeing, but there’s absolutely no reason not to be optimistic about democracy,” but when asked whether she thought that countries such as Egypt might achieve a 'full' democracy soon she added, “I think that democracy is always partial, it’s always a bit messy”.
