Dr Anne Geniets awarded TECT grant for Global News Challenge project

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism has been awarded 20,000 in the form of a Green Templeton College TECT grant to fund Dr Anne Geniets to write up her past years research on the Global News Challenge project.

In the words of Dr David Levy, Director of the RISJ, this project addresses the key issue of the role of international news media in developing countries in a globalized context across the whole population. The rapid change in the supply of international news and the emerging of a new, population-rich middle class in developing countries means that there is very little reliable and up to date information available about who watches or listens to what. Most studies available either focus on one aspect only (i.e. only consumption, only provision or only trust in international news media), and hardly any of these issues is examined across the population rather than simply opinion leaders alone.
