The Department has launched a new fund to support research, with a maximum of £30,000 being allocated to the fund annually.
The DPIR’s Research Support Fund (RSF) will provide small grants (up to £3,000 per award) for:
non-permanent academic or research staff (particularly early career researchers) to develop their research agendas through conducting or disseminating research
pump-priming and completion of research initiatives
emergency research funding
supporting dissemination of non-academic research impact or engagement activity.
No individual award will exceed £3,000. If there are more applications to the fund than can be met from the total RSF budget, then the review panel may have to make partial awards or may prioritise the awards it makes. There is also no automatic entitlement to funding. Applicants will be restricted to receiving one award per year. Except in the case of applications for emergency funding, applications will be considered in gathered fields each term. Applicants should apply at least one term in advance of the start date for funding being required.
The first gathered field for Michaelmas term 2022 is open between 1 - 20 November and the outcomes will be announced between 28 - 30 November.
