DPIR alumnus Sir Robin Niblett has been made a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, for services to International Relations and British Foreign Policy.
Sir Robin has been Director of Chatham House since January 2007 and is due to retire from the post this summer.
He studied for the MPhil in International Relations in 1993 and the DPhil in International Relations in 1995.
The citation for the KCMG is in acknowledgment of Sir Robin’s ‘outstanding personal contribution to British soft power and influence in his role as director of Chatham House over the last 15 years’
The KCMG is a British order of chivalry founded on 28 April 1818 by George, Prince Regent, later King George IV, while he was acting as regent for his father, King George III. It is awarded for service of conspicuous national importance and is limited to 65 people.
Before joining Chatham House, Sir Robin was the executive vice-president and chief operating officer of the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) from 2001 to 2006.
He is currently co-chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on Geopolitics.
