Department is first in UK and second in the world in 2019 QS World Rankings by Subject

The 2019 QS World Rankings have once again recognised the quality of research and teaching in the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR). For the fourth consecutive year, we have been ranked first in the UK and second in the world for Politics and International Studies.


Professor Louise Fawcett, Head of Department was delighted, “Oxford has a strong tradition of outstanding work in the field of Politics and International Studies. Our strength is a testament to dedicated colleagues and we are proud to teach the next generation of leaders, professionals and researchers.”

DPIR is one of the largest centres for research and teaching in the subject the UK, offering two undergraduate courses and eight DPhil (PhD), MPhil and MSc programmes at the postgraduate level. DPIR has a strong interdisciplinary ethos which is reflected across the three areas of international relations, comparative politics, and political theory, and harnesses them to achieve a wider understanding of political power and process within political systems and between them.
