DPIR alumnae Dr Ceri Fowler (BA PPE, 2011) and Rosalind Shorrocks (BA PPE, 2008) are set to host a conference later this month looking at the issue of gender and elections alongside their fellow convenor of the GenElect Network, Dr Jessica Smith.
The two-day Gender and Elections Workshop event will be held at Oxford’s St Hilda’s College on Monday, 16 December and Tuesday, 17 December and will comprise three workshop panels across the two days.
There will be various speakers across the three sessions and subjects covered will include: ‘Party Competition and the Gender Vote Gap at the 2024 British General Election’ with Rosie Campbell (Kings College, London), Dr Ceri Fowler (University of Oxford), Anna Sanders (University of York) and Rosalind Shorrocks (University of Manchester); and‘Gendered Abuse and Intimidation in the Local Elections and General Elections in the UK’ with Rosario Grima Algora, Hannah Phillips and Ziyu Deng (all University of Oxford).
Dr Fowler, Career Development Fellow in Comparative Politics at St Hilda’s College, said:
“This workshop is a chance for scholars and practitioners to reflect on the elections in the UK, US, and across the world over the last 12 months, with a special focus on gender.
“The workshop will develop new partnerships and includes participants from across the UK and Europe, as well as from the polling industry.
“We hope it will also be interesting to all those who attend panels and will form a chance to see some early research findings.”
