Actor and rapper Riz Ahmed profiled in The Guardian

Date

A recent article in The Guardian (27 April) discusses the work and life of Riz Ahmed, who studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) as an undergraduate at Oxford.

Since leaving Oxford Riz has pursued a successful dual career combining rapping under the name Riz MC and acting in a number of major films, including a breakout role in the 2009 film Four Lions. 2012s The Reluctant Fundamentalist is his 10th film.

Speaking of his time at Oxford, Riz notes, The default social circuit over there is a black-tie thing, which I wasnt familiar with. That was a culture shock. I was out of my comfort zone, viewed with suspicion, then it falls to you to say, OK, what are you going to do about it? Those experiences really defined me in terms of embracing your outsider status, and clawing yourway to insider status.

The article, which also notes one of the projects Riz is currently working on is a film about Oxford, can be read in full here.
