The Centre’s world-class scientists lead international research teams using cutting-edge technical expertise and data science. Our research focusses on four critical areas:
Social Transformations
In our research and executive programmes, we work with leaders in business, politics, and civil society to diagnose the drivers of social polarisation and develop scalable, effective, evidence-based strategies that enable workforces, communities, and electorates to cohere.
Institutional Innovation
Our research explores how democratic processes can be reformed to rebuild trust and public confidence. Partnering with policymakers, civil servants, and NGOs, we provide the evidence basis for strategies to broaden representation, create effective opportunities for meaningful participation, enhance political responsiveness, and empower leaders to drive meaningful reform.
International Resilience
One focus of our work is the development of new generations of civil and political leaders committed to upholding democratic values globally. By partnering with international organisations, including the UN, we foster multilateral cooperation and instil a long-term commitment to sustaining democracy in the face of external pressures.
Authoritarianism Observatory
Our research identifies the common strategies shared by authoritarian politicians to polarise society, undermine fair elections, dismantle checks and balances, control the media and information flows, subjugate the administrative state, and legitimise political and societal control. We track the development of the authoritarian playbook and develop early warning systems to detect new threats to democracies. In collaboration with policy organisations, we advance knowledge of authoritarian diffusion and equip democratic actors with tools to safeguard freedom.
