What role does local media play in shaping citizens’ climate change beliefs and climate mobilisation in developing countries?

We know that news coverage greatly influences climate change awareness and that certain types of media can generate greater opposition to climate policy. However, we know less about the media context in less developed countries and the conditions that generate more skepticism towards climate change in their contemporary yet fragmented media contexts. 

This project, which involves PI Dr Federica Genovese and the postdocs of the Climate Vulnerability Project at Oxford, will examine local news coverage of climate change between 2010 and 2023 in various developing countries including Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, and Vietnam.
