This project, within the Oxford Martin Programme on African Governance, aims to increase knowledge of the financial links between African states and key Asian financial centres, in light of the growing significance of the centres to Africa’s external financial relations.
The research stream, led by Ricardo Soares de Oliveira in collaboration with Stefan Dercon and Nicolas Lippolis will examine the causes behind Africa’s increased engagement with financial centres such as Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong.
It will also focus on the potential domestic impact on African growth and development and could influence efforts towards a sustainable, resilient recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
