Zarina Kulaeva

Zarina Kulaeva is a doctoral researcher at the Open University of Catalonia (OUC) in Barcelona, Spain. Her research, funded by a grant from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), focuses on the analysis of political regimes within the context of climate change. In addition to her research, Zarina teaches Comparative Politics at the same institution.

Her current work explores how the forms of governance are being challenged, conditioned, and eroded by the pressures of climate change. Zarina's academic background is rooted in Social and Cultural Anthropology at Autonomous University of Barcelona. She holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Anthropology from the University of Barcelona, a Master’s degree in Human Rights from the Open University of Catalonia (OUC), and a postgraduate diploma in Qualitative Research from the National University of Distance Education (UNED). 

Zarina is also a founding member of the International Institute of Human Rights - Spain Chapter, and she is an active member of the Urban Transformation and Global Change Laboratory (TURBA Lab), a research group dedicated to studying urban transformation in the face of global change and which is part of the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) of the Open University of Catalonia specialised in the study of the Internet and the effects of the interaction of digital technologies with human activity.
