Kamissa Camara currently pursues a DPhil in Politics at the University of Oxford, specialising in military coups in francophone West Africa and the anti-coup norms by the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Her DPhil project examines the strategic negotiations undertaken by coup makers that challenge established anti-coup norms, potentially contributing to the recent surge in military interventions in West Africa. The research focuses on how these interactions evolve from the initial coup-making stage to the moment of coup success and the subsequent post-coup diplomatic engagement.

Kamissa held high-ranking positions in the government of Mali, including Minister, Chief of Staff to the President, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Minister of Digital Economy and Planning. With a background in African politics, she has also served as Africa Director for PartnersGlobal, Senior Program Officer at the National Endowment Democracy, and Program Officer at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems.
