Elena Sofia Massacesi
BSc Politics and International Relations
I am a first year MPhil student in European Politics and Society and part of St Antony's College. Prior to studying at Oxford, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Politics and International Relations from University College London (UCL), graduating with First Class Honours and as a member of the Dean's List. My primary research interests are environmental policy, business-government relations, and the European Green Deal.
My undergraduate dissertation, which was awarded the Best Dissertation Prize in Politics and International Relations, empirically measured whether the largest EU companies fulfilled their corporate sustainability promises and evidenced predictors of greenwashing behaviour. Under the supervision of Dr Federica Genovese, I am continuing my interest in EU companies' environmental performance in my MPhil thesis.
Adjacent to my studies I am a section editor for the Oxford Political Review's Global Politics and Interviews sections. My previous writing experiences include interning with The Economist's Data Team, running interviews for the UCL European Institute with speakers including Alastair Campbell, and writing on transatlantic relations for European Horizons, a student-led think-tank. I also interned in the Corporate Affairs department of the pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca, focusing on strategic partnerships and communications for the company's sustainability strategy.
As an Italian raised in France attending international schools, I am fully fluent in Italian and French in addition to English.
