We are looking to appoint an Operations Support and Administrative Assistant to join the Department of Politics and International Relations. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a new role, created after a review of the Department’s operational and administrative support function.

The postholder will undertake a wide range of tasks to ensure core administrative and operational services are delivered in an effective and efficient manner. Under the direct supervision of the Operations and Office Manager, you will be the first port of call within the Department for enquiries from students, staff and visitors.

The role involves working with the range of professional support teams in DPIR; the Manor Road Building’s FM team; the Social Science Divisional IT service; and academics and students.

Areas of responsibility will include maintaining databases and mailing lists, administering various University and departmental systems, filtering and responding to queries, liaising with local facilities and maintenance teams, providing support for conferences and meeting preparations and acting as the Department ‘front of house’. 

To be effective you will have an understanding of standard administrative procedures, have a demonstrable commitment to outstanding service with strong communication and organisational skills. You should be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and display initiative where necessary. You should possess good IT skills, with the ability to use Office 365, MS Teams and email, and experience of using databases. Attention to detail is essential.
