Are you an early career researcher? Would you like to gain experience of managing and leading research projects and teams? You can apply for £100k to £350k in total, and hold this grant for up to five years. Applications can be for a wide range of activities such as surveys, Research Assistants, travel, or partial teaching buyout.
You can apply for any subject areas. N.B: ESRC have recently announced that applications in "AI for Social Sciences" (e.g. digital trace or smart data, modelling complex economic and social systems, or AI-driven evidence synthesis) are particularly welcomed at present. However if you don't work in AI, don't be put off applying as this is still a very suitable scheme.
(If you would like to apply for more than £350k, or do not class yourself as an early career researcher, then a “standard" ESRC responsive mode application would be more suitable. The funder's current interest in AI for Social Sciences also applies to these "standard" ESRC applications).
Funder deadline: Rolling deadline.
If you are interested in applying for this, please email the research facilitation team for comprehensive advice and support.
A example of a successful ESRC New Investigator application can be found in DPIR's proposal bank.
