Study by Professor Geoffrey Evans on UKIP voters quoted in The Times

Date

Geoffrey Evans was quoted in The Times (29 May) in an article entitled Ukip luring away Lib Dem protest voters about research conducted as part of the British Election Study that he co-directs.

Geoffrey and his collaborator Jon Mellon (Nuffield) were quoted as saying, “Ukip’s voters are overwhelmingly stolen from the Conservatives. Even the Liberals, tainted by coalition membership, lose more to them than do Labour. This fits the pattern found when Brown and Labour were in power — EU election defections are primarily from the governing party. So this looks like a protest vote.”
