Sandeep Sengupta, a doctoral candidate in International Relations at Oxford University, wrote a comment piece at The Hindu, India(14 February, 2012) on Indias need to develop a coherent grand strategy to address climate change.
Noting that India lost its way in the Durban conference, Sandeep writes that the firewall between developed and developing countries and the linking clause that made action by the latter dependent on support by the former were given up despite Indias persistent and voluble invocation of these norms throughout the two-week long conference, and the months preceding it.
For Sandeep, the outcome of the conference raises questions about Indias negotiating strategy and its alliance management which must be addressed for the next summit in Brazil in June 2012.
