Same-Sex Civil Marriage and the Established Religious Lobby, and other blogs

Date

On June 22 Iain McLean and Scot Peterson published an article on the Politics in Spires blog entitled: Same-Sex Civil Marriage and the Established Religious Lobby: Providing the Government with Good Information?

In it they wrote, The Church of Englands submission to the GEO has been criticised strongly. One commentator called the churchs argument that it might be forced to perform same-sex religious marriages fanciful and neurotic. Another has called its argument that a change in civil law will affect the internal rules of the Church of England a cynical strategy. And the churchs own newspaper, the Church Times, has called the churchs submission patronising. One might wonder whether there will be pressure to withdraw the statement at the upcoming meeting of the churchs general synod.

This is one of the many original and provocative articles to be featured on the site recently, and has drawn enough well-argued comments to lead Scot Peterson to post his own detailed response as a separate article.

Were delighted with the current quality and quantity of the submissions to the Politics in Spires site (run jointly by our department and Cambridges Department of Politics and International Studies), and would also like to highlight excellent articles by Hugo Slim on Lifting the Siege: Protecting Civilians in Syria, Peter Bajomi-Lazar on A Major Setback for Media Freedom: The Case of Hungary, and Reem Abou El-Fadl on The Egyptian Revolution, One Year On, to name just a few.

If you havent taken a look at the Politics in Spires website yet, now is an excellent time!
