Richard Caplan shortlisted for 2020 CRS Book of the Year Prize

Richard Caplan, Professor of International Relations, has been shortlisted by the Conflict Research Society (CRS) for their 2020 Book of the Year Prize.

His latest book, Measuring Peace: Principles, Practices, and Politics, is one of six contenders for the prize. The book aims to address the challenge of creating sustainable peace by confronting an uncomfortable truth: despite the enormous amount of money and resources spent each year on peacebuilding, these efforts are hampered by the lack of effective means of assessing progress towards the achievement of a consolidated peace.

The CRS Book of the Year Prize recognises ‘research that is contemporary, exceptional, and world leading, and which provides an invaluable contribution to the literature on conflict and peace studies, very broadly defined’.

Prof Caplan’s book is not the first among the DPIR community to be highlighted as excellent by the CRS. Last year, they awarded the title to alumna Christine Cheng, Senior Lecturer in International Relations at King’s College London, for her book, External Groups in Post-Conflict Liberia: How Trade Makes the State.
