Professor Walter Mattli receives British Academy/Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowship to study Governance of Global Capital Markets

Date

Congratulations to Walter Mattli, who has received a British Academy/Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowship to run from September 2015 to August 2016.

This British Academy/Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowship will allow Professor Mattli to fully focus during the coming academic year on his new book project titled 'The New Governance of Global Capital Markets: Winners and Losers’. A much overlooked yet vital part of the global economy is the infrastructure or ‘plumbing' of global capital markets - the exchanges, clearing houses, and securities depositories. When they run smoothly, they facilitate capital formation and risk management and enable economic growth and prosperity.  When they are poorly governed or corrupted, they impose enormous costs upon society.  The project brings together economics, political science, sociology, finance, and business studies. It will develop and test a set of hypotheses regarding governance of capital markets on an original dataset on ownership and control as well as capital market performance data.
