Date

Vernon Bogdanor writes in The Times Online. In an article titled `The era of two tribes is over, whoever wins` he assesses changes to Britain’s way of government, stating that ‘Both the rectangular architecture of the Commons and the first past the post electoral system were designed for a tribal system of politics, such as we enjoyed in the immediate postwar era, when one in 11 of us belonged to a party. Now only one in 88 of us does.’

Vernon also spoke on Radio 4`s pm programme on Friday 16 April 2010. He joined a discussion about whether the two main parties can continue to dominate politics, following the Liberal Democrat surge in the opinion polls in the wake of Nick Clegg’s appearance in the Leaders’ Debate the evening before.
