Professor Vernon Bogdanor and Professor Rana Mitter comment in Democracy on Trial, BBC Radio 4

In the final edition of Democracy On Trial on BBC Radio 4, Michael Portillo asked whether democracy has passed a high water mark and is now entering a long period of retreat.


Professor Vernon Bogdanor discussed the effect of changes which have taken place over the last Labour government, including devolution, the Human Rights Act and reform of the Lords. Professor Rana Mitter, commented on the advance of democratic ideas in China and the Chinese governments attitude towards increased popular participation.

Vernon Bogdanor is Professor of Politics and Government and also CUF University Lecturer.

Rana Mitter is Professor of the History and Politics of Modern China at Oxford.
