Professor Robert Picard to advise Libyan National Transitional Council on restructuring the countrys media

Robert G. Picard, Director of Research at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, has been asked to advise the Libyan National Transitional Council on restructuring the countrys media system, media regulatory practices, and economic factors influencing media viability and operations.


An expert in media economics and policy, Picard has been editor of the Journal of Media Economics and Journal of Media Business Studies. He regularly works with governments and international organizations on policy and economic issues related to media, and has provided expertise in the transformation of state and party media in the Baltic states as they gained independence from the Soviet Union.

He will meet with representatives of the National Transitional Council in Doha, Qatar from December 9-12.
