Professor Rana Mitter quoted on press censorship in China

Rana Mitter was quoted in an article in The Guardian on the future of media censorship in China, in the wake of protests at the liberal Chinese newspaper Southern Weekly.

While Southern Weeklys protests over provincial censorship regulations have not immediately led to a new dawn for Chinese press freedoms, they have encouraged broader discussion about the relationship between journalists and censors. I dont think this particular event is the end of the story by any means there will no doubt be other attempts to push at the edges, Rana noted. But I think it shows a leadership that is unconfident in a significant way.
