Professor Rana Mitter interviews Henry Kissinger

Date

Rana Mitter conducted an extended interview with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger about Kissingers new book On China. The conversation was broadcast at 10 pm on Wednesday 25 May on BBC Radio 3, on the Night Waves programme, and covers matters from Chinas contemporary human rights record to Kissingers own recollections of historical figures including Chairman Mao and Richard Nixon.

Kissinger was National Security Adviser to President Nixon (1969-73) and US Secretary of State (1973-77), and instrumental in the opening of China to the United States, a key event during the Cold War. His new book reflects on his four decades of engagement with China.
